About Chef/Owner Maria Rowena Taylor

I was born and raised in the Philippines. We had a family-owned bakery and grocery stores. My siblings and I did not spend summer and weekends like the other kids in town. We spent our days managing our stores and delivering baked goods to the local stores and markets. I remember my family distributing free loaves of bread to the people in need and hungry. As a young girl, I would give away baked bread/goods to my school and community.
The smiles on their faces brought joy to my heart. I often think to myself that everyone should be afforded to eat well and enjoy a bountiful meal. As a family, we ate our meals together. I used to fear family lunch/dinner because we talked about our day at work or at school. I used to get in trouble a lot, thus I wanted to avoid the spotlight on me. Nevertheless, eating together is a great time to talk, discuss, make decisions and plans, and bond with friends/families.
Let's Break Bread" is a phrase I use a lot when I want to spend quality time with a person, people or families to talk about life, aspirations and/or make important plans and decisions.
